Are you Prepared?

The Lillooet Tribal Council (LTC), which represents the northern St’át’imc Nations, is one of the few Tribal Council with a dedicated nation level Emergency Management Coordinator. Darryl Adrian, supports the six northern St’at’imc communities during crises such as wildfires, floods, and pandemics. Guided by cultural sensitivity and the four emergency pillars by providing the training that is needed— Mitigation, Preparedness, Response, and Recovery — the EMC works to strengthen community resilience and intergovernmental relations.

Services

Emergency Planning & Coordination

  • Updates community emergency plans
  • Coordinates training (e.g., Wildland Fire Fighter Training)
  • Develops agreements with provincial agencies
  • Integrates traditional practices into emergency planning

Community Communication & Outreach

  • Keeps leadership and members informed
  • Engages in media outreach
  • Promotes awareness of emergency preparedness

Crisis Response

  • On call for emergencies
  • Coordinates response during wildfires, floods, landslides, pandemics, and extreme weather events

FireSmart Program

  • Provides information, education, and training for northern St’at’imc FireSmart/Emergency/Land Coordinators
  • Builds community capacity through education and preparedness
  • Follows seven FireSmart™ disciplines: Education, Vegetation Management, Legislation & Planning, Development Considerations, Interagency Cooperation, Cross-training, and Emergency Planning
  • Hosts a Junior FireSmart Coordinator role each summer to engage youth and support employment programs

Climate Resilience & Wildfire Training

  • Hands-on training to prepare for, respond to, and recover from emergencies
  • Builds skills for community Emergency Management Teams
  • Provides pathways to careers in emergency response
  • Strengthens unity, self-reliance, and long-term sustainability

Extreme Heat Resilience

  • Improves public health and climate resilience
  • Develops custom strategies to reduce heat-related risks
  • Provides urban cooling solutions and climate-adaptive infrastructure planning
  • Engages communities to raise awareness and protect vulnerable residents (including pets)
